ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – The push for cleaner energy isn’t making everyone happy in Wentzville.

BayoTech has been working on a new hydrogen hub. They broke ground in December, and it’s set to produce 350 tons of hydrogen a year. However, some people have a problem with how Close this plant is to their homes.

BayoTech is building the Wentzville BayogaaS Hydrogen Hub on Parr Road. People who live in a nearby neighborhood off Mexico Road said that they were never notified about the development, and they’re concerned about property values and safety.

BayoTech shared that it held an open house on their plans. They also claimed they sent invitations to the December 14 groundbreaking to thousands of people who live in the community. The company said hydrogen has been safely produced in the U.S. for more than 50 years.

A BayoTech representative told FOX 2 that the facility is designed to meet all safety codes and standards while also adding new jobs.

Some people we spoke with not only have concerns about potential dangers, but the transitioning from fossil fuels to new forms of cleaner energy is a change neighbors like Kelley Wright worry will ultimately cost them.

“This is an investment in my future, and if my property is going to go down because I’m in the blow area of a hydrogen plant, if I can’t sell my family to another home, well, that kinda defeats the purpose of me investing in the city to begin with,” Wright explained.

BayoTech says the project is expected to be complete late this summer. In the meantime, neighbors want more transparency from the company as progress continues.
